There’s almost nothing easier than making a scrapbook; and most of the time there’s also just about nothing else which is more fun. However, there are times when you find yourself a little tired of the same old routine of cutting and pasting. You can purchase premade decorations for scrapbooks, but these are standardized items which can also tend to look much the same as one another – and they don’t give you as much room for expression as decorations you make yourself. This can lead to scrapbook burnout, which leads to scrapbooks being shelved and neglected.

There are several techniques you can use to keep your scrapbooks interesting. These can make your scrapbook projects exciting and look better once they’re finished.

Re-use old material: Any scrapbooker will have plenty of spare parts lying around from their projects. Don’t throw these things out – re-use them and do something creative with them on a scrapbook project.

Make the best of the situation and use these old pieces to make something new. Sew leftover pieces of cloth together and paste them onto a scrapbook page. Small pieces of paper can be cut into smaller ones and arranged into decorative patterns on a page.

Rubber stamps: OK, so there may not be anything new about rubber stamps, but these stamps can get old – unless you do something new and exciting with them, that is! Instead of the same old ink, try using rubber stamps with colorful paints to make something special and unexpected.

Pop Ups. Putting and using pop ups randomly throughout your scrapbook can increase your project’s “exciting” grade. With this, try making your photos or your decorative elements to pop up. You don’t need a spring to make them pop up once the page is opened. With the use of adhesive tape, you can make anything pop up on your scrapbook page.

Try some different folds: Tired of turning to the same easily opened pages every time you look at your scrapbook? Try switching things up and fold in some of those pages for an interesting change.

Fall pages: Fall pages let you create almost any effect you could want to use in your scrapbook pages. You can add die cuts, pop-ups, do some paintings and many other things. You can get some great and interesting looks without actually needing to be a design pro.

Photo frames: Instead of just pasting those photos in, present them to full advantage with a photo frame. You can make a frame out of pretty much any material you have on hand and you’ll be able to draw attention right to the photo as you turn to the page.

Matchbook- style: If you’re feeling burnt out on your scrapbook or want to try something new, try a matchbook scrapbook. It’s a miniature matchbook-style scrapbook. These are fun to make and of course, very portable. Trying a new format can spark creativity.
